Warm Spaces

18th October 2022

Are you feeling the cold this winter?

With rising fuel prices on everyone’s mind we know the importance of somewhere warm to escape to. Warm Spaces is an online directory of ‘warm banks’; different spaces where you can go to find warmth, welcome and help.

To help support the local community, Anna, The General Manager from the Swan at Walton-on-Thames, has registered her pub.

We asked Anna about why she signed up to Warm Spaces:

“They saw that there was a need for people to be signposted to somewhere warm and dry this winter. So, by registering myself as a warm place it would allow people to come in and relax without the pressure of having to buy a meal or a drink. You can come in and have a coffee, or nothing at all, just sit and relax. It’s something small but something really important for me to do.

We are large a summer pub and have a huge, warm space to share with lots of open fires, so why not share it with everyone?

We are all in this together, we can see the pressure it is putting on the people in our area, we saw the need and we have the space. In the community near us, we have lots of different people from mixed incomes and different situations and we saw how this is affecting them, where are they going to have a hot drink and keep warm during the cold months? Everything in the media about the rising cost made me think it was something I should do to help our community.”

The Swan, alongside The Alexandra in Wimbledon, will also be holding a weekly ‘Meet Up Monday’ events starting at the end of this month. This is a chance to get together with a free tea or coffee and meet some new friends, all while keeping warm during these colder months.
