Coastal Getaways

Does a great British getaway really get any better than a beach-y break? We’ve got three very lovely places to stay out on the coasts of Somerset, Poole and Devon, all home to beautiful boutique hotel-inspired bedrooms and wonderfully buzzing pubs at the heart (win, win).

The best places to stay on the coast
In the summer months you’re in for a stunner. Our perfectly placed coastal pubs have you within sniffing distance of the sounds and sights of the shimmery shores. Think sunny spritzes in the pub by day, toes-in-sand blue-flag beach walks, and late nights under the stars (seagulls singing nearby).
In the colder months you’re in for a corker. With all there is to love about a summer-y seaside getaway, but with a different kind of warmth. Think crackling log fires, cosy corners and bundles of blankets. Beach-y strolls (brolly and all), hearty pub eats, and snuggly sleeps.
Spotlight: Coastal Summer Getaways
1. The Canford
Sitting pretty in Canford Cliffs, and just a short stroll from some of of Dorset’s fine sand blue-flag beaches (via some of the country’s oldest beach huts), The Canford sets the tone for a classic seaside-y summer.
A short stroll into Canford Cliffs village, you’ll find quirky little cafes, restaurants and shops, while 10-minutes in the opposite direction, lands you in the ever-so-famous and equally good-looking Sandbanks.
2. The Seagate
Taking pride of place in the not-so-sleepy Devon fishing village of Appledore, famed for its maritime history, quality seafood and independent boutique-lined colourful streets, sits The Seagate.
Just across the way is the pretty little village of Instow, a teeny ferry ride away, whilst a little drive west will land you in Northam Burrows Country Park and WestwardHo! beach.
3. The Oyster House
Nestled in the heart of Mumbles, where the colourful promenade meets the stunning coastline of Swansea Bay, Oyster House offers the perfect spot to soak up the charm of this much-loved seaside village. From independent shops and cosy cafés to award-winning restaurants and a rich maritime heritage, everything you need for a memorable coastal escape is right on your doorstep.
Take a leisurely stroll to Mumbles Pier and the Victorian lighthouse, explore the local boutiques, or venture a little further along the Gower coast to discover spectacular beaches, scenic cliff-top walks and some of Wales’ most breathtaking landscapes.
3. The Hoste
At the heart of Burnham Market, one of North Norfolk’s most picturesque villages, you’ll find The Hoste. Surrounded by elegant Georgian buildings, independent boutiques, artisan delis and inviting cafés, it’s the ideal base for discovering this charming corner of the county.
Just a short drive away, the wide sandy beaches of Holkham and Brancaster beckon, while the beautiful North Norfolk coastline offers endless opportunities for coastal walks, wildlife spotting and exploring quaint seaside villages steeped in character.
5. The Cliftonville
Perched on Cromer’s clifftop overlooking the sweeping North Norfolk coastline, The Cliftonville is perfectly placed to enjoy the charm of this classic Victorian seaside town. From its iconic pier and sandy beach to independent shops, traditional cafés and fresh local seafood, Cromer offers the perfect blend of coastal nostalgia and contemporary charm.
Take a stroll along the promenade, catch a show at the famous pier, or venture along the North Norfolk coast to discover nature reserves, picturesque villages and miles of unspoilt beaches waiting to be explored.
