The quintessential Christmas drink for many people, Port is making a resurgence in popularity and with so many styles to choose from we thought we’d take a look at  few of our favourites from the world renowned Ferreria port house . Whether you enjoy a hearty, fruit driven or a nutty Tawny, there will be something on the list for you.

Ferreria port house is steeped in 250 years of tradition, gaining its current high reputation during the nineteenth century under the leadership of Dona Antónia Ferreira. Widowed young, Ferreira, took control of the family business with a gusto few of her male counterparts could match. To this day Ferreira remains blessed with a superb range of vineyard holdings from which to craft their range of full, elegant ports with the estate now covering an impressive 875 hectares, 520 of these being under vine.

Ferreria Ruby Port

A fresh and delicate aroma, reminiscent of spices and dry fruit, these flavours are acquired during oak ageing. In the mouth this is an elegant wine that shows a fine balance between structure and sweetness, providing it with an attractive long finish.

 

Pair with a stinky blue cheese or chocolate ganache pudding.

 

Ferreria LBV Port

The intense aroma is dominated by very ripe black fruit, blackcurrant, blackberry and prune, along with chocolate, cocoa, floral aromas and a slight hint of pepper spices. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine with great balance between sweetness and richness of structure.

Pair with aged cheeses, mature cheddar cheeses and Stilton.

Ferreira Tawny Port 10 Years Old

The nose is characterised by an excellent balance between the floral and ripe fruit aromas of the grapes themselves and the spicy, dry fruit aromas from the years ageing in barrel. The palate shows the classic, fresh Ferreira style, achieving fine balance and a long finish. Tawny ports have a minimum of 7 years ageing in oak.

 

Pair with smoked cheddar, Pecorino and aged Manchego. Crème brûlée or caramel covered cheesecake.
