A sustainable Christmas

11th October 2019

Most of us now make a special effort to reduce, reuse and recycle at home, however this year the Park in Teddington have decided to ditch the tinsel, ban the baubles and get crafty this Christmas as they work towards celebrating a more sustainable Christmas. To help them in their quest the talented team will be utilising locally foraged pine cones, crafting salt dough ornaments and shaping disused menus into hundreds of origami stars.

If you’ve never been to the Park, it’s certainly time to add it to your list! Big, bold and beautiful the interior is a place of both splendour and comfort, with plenty of space to adorn with Christmas regalia and with a building this size it’s certainly going to be no small job, thus they have called in the help of the local community to lend a hand.

This year they will be two Christmas Crafting evenings held in their Snug, where you can expect to see plenty of festive folding, ribbon cutting and bow tying taking place. Mulled wine and mince pies will be provided.

General Manager Phil Harris says ‘We believe that it is our duty, as a big business in Teddington, to champion a greener Christmas and to show that a return to traditional, handcrafted and ultimately less wasteful methods is possible and actually preferable. We have had great feedback from the locals so far and hope that the good people of Teddington and beyond support us in our quest.’

Perhaps the most controversial aspect of their crusade is the exclusion of Christmas crackers, due to the unnecessary waste they produce. Events Manager Vikki Harris says ‘ We have made a commitment to gift a hand crafted tree decoration to every guest who joins us for a Christmas Feast. This is a thoughtful gesture as well as an environmentally friendly one, as the guest may take their dec home and place it on their tree, year after year, as a reminder of the wonderful time they had at the Park.’

Be sure to check out the fruits of their labour on the 28th November, when the Christmas lights are switched on in Teddington and the Park proudly unveil their sustainably seasonal look.
