Wine Uncorked: La La Land Pinot Noir

10th April 2018

Our new spring menu is bringing wave upon wave of joy to our taste buds. The wine list is just as inspiring. In celebration of the season, we’ve carefully curated a special selection of outstanding wines which we just know you are going to love.

At the top of our list right now is the luscious La La Land Pinot Noir. Hailing from Red Cliffs vineyard near Mildura, to the north west of Victoria, this Antipodean stunner is a must try. Layers of juicy raspberry and cherry mingle with hints of rosemary and vanilla oak and there’s a beautiful nose of vibrant red fruit with a glimmer of vibrant lifted violet and rose florals. Lighter and zestier than the reds we enjoyed over the winter months, this is the ideal companion for spring and summer.

We chatted to Aidan Menzies, the talented winemaker behind this stunning wine. “I wanted to create something fun, juicy, quaffable and unmistakably Pinot Noir. Those who like Beaujolais may see similarities here in the freshness, vibrancy and lightness of style.”

Clearly passionate about his craft, he told us about the process he goes through to create La La Land. “All the fruit for this wine is 100% grown on our estate vineyard. After gentle crushing, we drain off the free-run juice to craft a Saignee style Pinot Noir Rose, leaving greater concentration of flavour for this La La Land Pinot Noir. Once we have extracted the desired flavour and tannins, we give it a bit of oak for three months. It’s a delicious expression of warmer climate, punchy summer fruit flavours, designed to offer a terrific everyday drinking experience.”

We heartily agree. It’s perfect at the dinner table accompanied by bubbling conversation and great food. Aidan enjoys his with pan-fried duck breast while we have also found it was set off to perfection even by a British staple ploughman’s platter. So adaptable is this wine that Aidan even has a surprising alternative serving suggestion: “Here in Australia we even chill this Pinot on hot summer days and knock back around the barbecue.” One to bear in mind for the next heatwave perhaps? Surely that’s just around the corner?

We hope this has given all the excuses you need to order a bottle on your next visit. We promise, you won’t regret it.

Cheers
