A PIONEERING, POETIC SINGLE MALT FOR BURNS NIGHT

17th January 2022

There is not an evening more lyrical than January 25th, when laddies and lassies from across the globe come together in celebration of Burns Night. This traditional knees-up is, of course, a tribute to the national bard himself, as well as an occasion to experience the best of Scottish fare.

So what better way to raise a glass this year, than with an experimental malt from Glenfiddich, the World’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky. Their pioneering creation, known as IPA Experiment, is the first ever single malt Scotch whisky to be finished in India Pale Ale craft beer casks.

Yes, you read that right! Collaborating with a local Speyside craft brewer, Malt Master Brian Kinsman has imbued the timeless flavour of Glenfiddich whisky with a unique zesty kick and a subtle tang of fresh hops. It’s a maverick take on tradition, and the same kind of spontaneous spirit that you might expect to find amongst the words of Robbie Burns himself.

Think of it in verse. The opening line of this whisky begins on the nose, with an elegant harmony of apples, pears and spring blossom, and the unmistakable hint of aromatic hops and fresh herbs. Then, leading into the melodic and vibrant taste of citrus, it ends on an emotive finish of creamy vanilla – and once again those wonderful fresh hops.

This year, there is a canny opportunity to give this ground-breaking single malt a try. With an On Tap treat from Young’s, you’ll be treated to a free dram at your local Young’s pub between the 24th and the 28th January. In our opinion, there’s no finer way to toast Robbie’s 263rd birthday and enjoy a sprightly gift on his behalf.

Most importantly, if you’re with good friends, a single malt of this stature deserves a ceremony of its own. Burns Night would usually involve the “piping in” of the haggis, followed by a customary “address”, and then a whisky toast to the dish. But we prefer getting straight to the grand finale; simply order your Glenfiddich IPA Experiment and enjoy a whisky quite unlike any other.

Achieving this special Glenfiddich single malt was a long and experimental process, taking inspiration, skill and the secret science of seasoning.

So on this most creative of days, may we suggest you let your own imagination fly. “Oh thou, my muse” as Robbie Burns once said about Scotch. What might he have made of two classics being infused as one?

Exciting!
