Stay Hammersmith

Connected Cityside Stays

We’re back with the second instalment of The Cityside Series: and this time, we’re headed to all-time favourite, Hammersmith.

Hammersmith is hands-down one of the best-connected areas of West London thanks to its variety of reliable transport links. And the best bit? It’s home to our very own West London hotspot, the Brook Green, a triple-whammy of greatness, just 10-minutes from Earls Court and 20-minutes from the city.

Why Hammersmith?

Convenience: 20 minutes into London

Connectivity

By train: Kensington Olympia Station is just a short walk away, offering Overground services to Shepherd’s Bush, Clapham Junction and beyond, ideal for easy links across London.

By tube: A short distance from Hammersmith underground station, served by four lines: District, Piccadilly, Circle and Hammersmith & City, making it easy to get into central London favourites like Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Victoria and Westminster as well as other parts of Greater London. The Piccadilly Line will also get you to London Heathrow airport in 35 minutes.

By bus: Numerous routes connect Hammersmith to other West London hubs including Chiswick, Shepherd’s Bush and Ealing. Heading into Central London? Hop on the no.9 bus for a grand tour of London’s icons – Kensington, Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, before rolling into Aldwych. There are also direct links south of the river to Fulham and Putney, perfect for exploring every corner of the capital.

By road: Situated on the A4, Hammersmith offers easy access both into Central London and out towards the M4, Heathrow and the West.

Things to see and do in Hammersmith

The Great Outdoors

Leafy, lively, and full of hidden gems, Hammersmith is a riverside neighbourhood with plenty to explore. Take a stroll along the Thames Path, winding past moored boats and rowers in training, or wander through nearby Ravenscourt Park, a peaceful green escape perfect for those autumnal strolls, coffee in hand.

Culture & Entertainment

From live music at the legendary Eventim Apollo to intimate performances at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith is a cultural corner of London with something for everyone. Cross the historic Hammersmith Bridge for a walk into Barnes and you’ll find a slower pace, lined with galleries, indie shops, and waterside pubs, including sister pub The Bridge on Castelnau Road.

Shopping

Browse King Street for high-street favourites, explore the Hammersmith Broadway for easy essentials, or hop across the river to Barnes for a more village-style feel, where artisan markets and local boutiques make weekend browsing a delight. Don’t miss Barnes Farmers Market (every Saturday, 8:30am – 2pm), one of London’s oldest and most loved markets, brimming with fresh produce, handcrafted goods, and local charm.

Where to Stay in Hammersmith

The only-and-only Brook Green. One pub, three storeys: bursting with heritage, character and quirks: your new go-to for pre-show dinners and post-show stays.

The Brook Green

Just an eight-minute stroll from Hammersmith Underground Station (a straight road, no less) brings you to the hugely-handsome Brook Green, perfectly positioned beside its namesake green. Inside, you’ll find a traditional pub with tall, light-filled windows overlooking the park, 17 beautifully designed boutique bedrooms upstairs (think Nespresso machines, honesty bars stocked to the brim with treats and tipples and pretty little touches that’ll trump a traditional Hammersmith hotel any day), and Smith’s Cocktail Bar tucked neatly below: a triple threat of comfort, character and cocktails. The perfect spot for a post-theatre sleepover or a post-work pint and a pitstop.

Cross the river and land at…

The Bridge

Just across the river in Barnes, you’ll find The Bridge. With the Thames at its doorstep and Barnes Common nearby, it’s the perfect place to slow down without ever feeling far from the city. Upstairs, cool bedrooms with Hypnos beds invite long lie-ins, while downstairs, open fires, seasonal dishes and bold red wines set the tone for pre-show dinners or lazy weekend lunches. It’s London’s pace, reimagined, a little slower, a little softer, and entirely its own.

That’s all for now.

Riverside beauty, cultural charms, and two perfectly placed pubs with rooms on either side of the Thames.

And remember, book direct for the best rates, late check-out (that’s 1pm between us), and first-dibs on the best rooms in the house.

Next in our Cityside series, we’re heading to…. (no spoilers here – so stay tuned).

In the meantime, discover the best of South West here.
