The Prince of Wales was built in 1852 and served the growing community of Summerstown which was a hamlet in the river Wandle at that time containing mills and workshops. The land on which the pub stands was once called Garratt Little Green and the Surrey Iron Railway crossed it. When the railway closed in 1846, the land was sold and the Prince of Wales was built directly over the old tracks. The pub was rebuilt by Young's in 1898.
Today the pub is run by a husband and wife team Kirk and Nicky Barclay who took over the running of the pub in February 2010. The pub has a thriving sports following and a passion for horse racing so you're guaranteed to pick up a tip with your pint. At the Races is shown daily and we are also able to show ESPN and Setanta Sports on our three screens.
There is a darts competition every Sunday evening, and anyone can enter, prizes for the winner and runners up. A stage has recently been built in the pub as Kirk and Nicky have a passion for live music and intend to establish the Prince of Wales as a renowned venue in the Tooting area. Karaoke takes place on the last Saturday of each month.
