The Cityside Series: Stay Wandsworth

Stay Wandsworth

Connected Cityside Stays

This series is all about city stays. The super-connected type as opposed to the uber-central type. The type of stays that’ll have you in the City within 15-minutes. The best of worth worlds type. Close enough to dive right into the action yet out-of-town just enough to escape the bright lights and retreat back to when last orders are called. The type that pack a punch for convenience, connectivity and character.

And today we’re shining a spotlight on our very own hometown of Wandsworth. Where we’ve got not one, but three powerhouse pubs with rooms – all just minutes from the train station, all wonderfully unique, and all wonderfully us. No formalities, no fussiness – just happy, relaxing places.

So, why Wandsworth?

Convenience:

15-minutes into central London.

Connectivity:

By train: Wandsworth Town sits on the South Western Railway line with frequent and direct services to London Waterloo, plus connected routes via Wandsworth Common & Earlsfield.

By tube: a short distance from East Putney underground station with easy-access to wider central London stations.

By bus: numerous routes serving other South London hubs including Putney, Clapham Junction and Wimbledon.

By road: nearby major A roads and just off the south circular.

Things to see and do in Wandsworth

The great outdoors:

There’s plenty of leafy green space around Wandsworth. Wandsworth Park, on the edge of the River Thames is perfect for riverside wanders whilst being home to a children’s playground, a putt-in-the-park 12-hole mini golf and tennis courts. Wandsworth Common and King George’s Parks also hit the spot for daytime strolls, park picnics and running routes, and for a slow-paced stroll, a walk along the River Wandle will land you in another favourite SW London hub, Earlsfield.

Culture and entertainment:

There are plenty of sportsy-socialy things to do in Wandsworth. Mooch around Southside shopping centre for a spot of high-street retail therapy – where you’ll also find the go-all-out multi-activity kid (and big-kid) playground Gravity. For a hand at the sport-of-the-season, head to The Padel Yard (just across the from Brewer’s Inn) where you’ve got 3 outdoor and 3 covered courts to choose from. And for a little bit of everything, Ram Quarter (our old Brewery site) is packed-full of all things eat, drink and play – including Strike bowling, Scratch golf and Boom Battle Bar.

Where to stay in Wandsworth?

Here’s three super-connected stays. Close to the station, close to the action, close to each other.

The Alma

First up, there’s The Alma in all its gorgeous green-tiled glory. Exit Wandsworth Town train station and you’re quite literally there – no Citymapper needed. A much-loved local pub, commuter hub and foodie favourite that’s become a celeb-approved Sunday roast sensation. Its 23 bedrooms are in the midst of a pretty little makeover and insider tip incoming… you can bag a first-look from 25th October.

Brewer’s Inn

Next up, there’s Brewer’s Inn. Take a super-short stroll through Wandsworth Town, chuck a left, and you’re there. Otherwise known as one of the OG’s: one of the original Young’s five – it’s been knocking around since 1831 who it’s safe to say it knows a thing or two about hospitality. It’s a cracking pub with 16 recently refurbed bedrooms, a mighty meeting room and speakeasy bar (perfect for private parties), so this one’s an absolute all-rounder.

Spread Eagle

And last but by no means least, a minute to the left of Brewer’s Inn and in the heart of Wandsworth, you’ll find Spread Eagle. Lovingly restored in 2021 and dubbed a quintessential old-school boozer for snoozers by The Times thanks to its dazzling transformation and its then-added 21 boutique bedrooms, it’s bagged a few awards (so you’re not just taking our word for it).

And that’s a wrap… for now.

There you have it. Three of the best places to stay (yes, we said it) south of the river. Easily accessible, embodying the absolute joy of staying in a pub, and next on your hitlist.

And of course, it goes without saying – book directly and you’ll bag the very best rates, late check-out and first-dibs on the next best room (as long as they’re available).

Spoiler alert: next in our Cityside series, we’re heading to… Hammersmith. Keep your peepers peeled and we’ll be back soon.
