Revamped & revitalised: 6 of our latest and greatest hotel-y makeovers

We’ve been rather busy lately with mood-boards, toolboxes, paint swatches – and not just to make our pubs look pretty (though, spoiler alert: they really, really do).

From countryside retreats to city pit-stops, we’ve given some of our favourite pubs with rooms the glorious glow-ups they truly deserved. Think plush pillows, proper coffee machines, and more-than-a-splash of personality in each and every corner. Ready for a nosey around? Let’s go.

Coach & Horses, Kew

As you might imagine, our designers had a field day with this renovation. With Kew Gardens a hop, skip and jump away, they had no shortage of inspiration for their colour palette and (oh so many) artworks. There’s more than a handful of nods paying homage to their good-looking neighbour across the green.

But these 31 made-over rooms are anything but twee or overly flower-power inspired chambers. Oh no. They are grown up, classy and (most importantly, some may say) they have posh coffee machine in every room.

There’s even a gem of a Feature Boutique bedroom that has it’s own little sun-trap garden terrace – just for you. And that makes it spot-on for raiding the honesty bar bar and having yourself some alfresco sip s in the sunshine this summer. How does that sound?

Griffin Inn, Fletching

Now this is what we (in the pub-loving biz) call a ‘sensitive restoration’. By this we mean that our designers have solemnly honoured the vast history and heritage of the building and stayed true to the pub’s origins. Oak beams, higgledy-piggledy walkways, fabulous fireplaces, and flagstones (that have been trodden for hundreds of years) have simply been given a bit of prime-and-polish to help them gleam once again.

Equally, the newly-decorated bedrooms above the pub are just as joyfully reminiscent of days gone by. With bucket-loads of characterful features, lovely soft neutral tones, alongside brand-new bathrooms, and a four-poster bed thrown in for good measure here-and-there.

The rooms just outside in Coach and Griffin House are 100% giving cute and countryside-y, in more of an olde-worle kind of way (but we didn’t touch these ones – not yet, anyway). With views over the most expansive pub garden you ever did see – and the green-and-glorious Sussex countryside (the Sussex Serengeti as the locals call it), this gem of a pub is a dream come true for country pub lovers, bird watchers, and fine wine drinkers.

The Windmill, Clapham

These new bedrooms are about as far away from that as it’s possible for you to imagine, when you think of something cute and countryside.

Instead, they’re wall-to-wall deep burgundy and jewel-toned, decked out with thick, rich materials, fringe cushions, pendant bedside lights, vintage radios and a couple of simply-stunning copper bathtubs. These rooms can only be described as downright boujee, and our designers well and truly hit the mark.

If you want to base yourself in an in-but-out-of-London hotspot, this is your answer. Bag yourself a new-look boutique bedroom (some have views of the Common), and thank us later.

The Huntsman, Brockenhurst

Squirrelled away in the leafy-and-lovely New Forest village of Brockenhurst, is this gorgeous countryside pit-stop. The Huntsman is spot-on on for a pint (or a bite to eat, of course) but with the newly made-over rooms above and beside the pub, it’s also pretty much 100/10 for weekends away too – so staying the night really is a must.

You’ll find bedrooms of comfy and family-sized proportions with brand-new bathrooms, super-comfy beds, and comfy soft furnishings. It’s a true countryside design, once again. Warm, welcoming and so in-keeping with its surroundings – complete with colours and artwork that mirror the green-and-gorgeous surroundings of the pub.

Though the new rooms are beautiful beyond belief, there’s more than enough to do whilst you’re in the area. And when you’re done beach-ing, Beaulieu-ing, or wandering through the woods, you can settle in for a soothing nights sleep.  Oh, and don’t be surprised if you open the curtains in the morning and happen to spot a wild pony nibbling the flowers in the pub garden. Nor if you’re visited by donkeys, or even wild boar; it’s all part-and-parcel of a New Forest getaway.

The Crown, Chertsey

This much-loved Chertsey-based watering hole has been given a glorious glow-up, much to the joy of its regulars, local businesses, and Surrey staycation-ers alike.

And it’s been a good-and-proper, whole-hog, top-to-bottom, room-revamping, menu-rethinking makeover. The pub itself is now chock-a-block with traditional, heritage colours, wingback leather fireside chairs, exposed brickwork, wood panelling, eclectic artwork, Victorian-style-stained glass, and so many inviting nooks that beckon you in for a beer (perhaps a pie too). And that’s just the pub.

Not only that (and that’s a lot) but 30 of the 49 bedrooms have had a dose of love too. Soft pastel colours, new carpets and some perfectly family (and dog) friendly rooms; complete with sofa beds, coffee tables and plenty of snacks in the honesty bar. These rooms are made for those cuppa-in-bed mornings.

Brewer’s Inn

As this is one of Young’s very first pubs (yes it’s that historic) it’s long been a cornerstone in South London life. And so, we thought it was about time that our South London pub and the rooms had a dazzling do-over, to keep them looking their best for many more years to come.

All 16 bedrooms (and the big-and-beautiful pub) have got a fresh new look. Weekends away in Wandsworth (or even just a one-pint-then-pillow night) are even better now; with heritage touches, cosy textures, and just the right amount of London cool kicking about.

After its thoughtful makeover, it’s looking better than ever, while still holding onto its charm, history and its lived-in soul.

So there you have it. A more-than-a-handful of our finest, most fabulously fluffed-up and fresh-faced faves. Whether you’re after a wild-pony-watching weekend in the New Forest, a swish staycation in Clapham, or just a proper comfy bed above a proper lovely pub, we’ve got you covered. Now all you’ve got to do is pack a bag and pick your favourite (or go full pub-hopping hero and try them all).
