Ali and the team welcome you to the King's Arms.

The site of the King's Arms was originally an Augustinian Priory built in 1268. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in 1540, the land passed to the mayor and City of Oxford. An entry in the lease book of Oxford Council, dated 1607, states "Thomas Franklyn has licence to set up an inn with the sign of the King's Arms".
Franklyn's choice of the sign of the King refers to King James 1 (1603 - 1625) who was closely involved with the adjacent Wadham College.
The King's Arms history is intertwined with that of Oxford, with regular mentions in historical documents.
At various times a coaching inn and a hotel until 1973 its back bar, known as "The Office" was Oxford's last male only bar.
A Young's pub since 1991, the King's Arms today remains a busy and popular pub serving Oxford's academic community, locals and tourists alike.

The King's Arms celebrates it Quadricentenary Year
1607 - 2007. A limited edition commemmorative ale will be available to celebrate this unique anniversary.

I visited Oxford with my mother at the weekend and enjoyed the sightseeing bus tour. Our guide. Curtis, who was a gem, informed us that we could enjoy a good meal at the kingsarms - it was a good old-fashioned Oxford pub. Our meal was excellent, very good portions, all fresh very good price and good beer. The atmosphere is something we took home with us, very friendly both staff and customers alike. Thank you all so much for making our day special.
