Planning a pub wedding

13th February 2020

Finding a venue for your wedding can feel like one of the most stressful parts of organising your big day. Luckily both my fiance and I agreed that we couldn’t think of a better venue than a pub for our reception. It was the first thing to come up when we sat toasting our new engagement minutes after the big question had been popped in a pub that we knew we couldn’t host it anywhere else.

The pub holds a special place in our relationship, and I’m sure in many peoples as it was where we met and then spent many a date night. We worked together in the local pub where we both happened to grow up and it was behind that bar that our friendship became something even more special.  A London pub wedding is the perfect tribute to how we met and how we know a lot of our guests who will be attending.

As we chose to have a Autumn/Winter wedding the coziness of a British pub  with roaring fires was incredibly appealing, although our ceremony is in another venue we’re already excited about everyone arriving at the pub for a good old knees up.  Although if it was a summer wedding it would definitely still be in a pub because who doesn’t love a pub garden! So many London pubs have these gorgeous hidden green spaces with outside bars just ready and waiting for your wedding day.

The other thing that appealed to us about having a pub wedding was that half the work is done for you. Pubs have stunning function rooms nowadays and whether it’s quirky or traditional that you are looking for then a pub is the place to look. All the furniture, plates, glasses etc are ready for whatever delicious feast you’ve asked the  kitchen to cook up. The food and drink was an important part of the planning and being able to have our venue cover everything for us made planning so much easier. We are big foodies and pub food featured very heavily when we first started dating (and still now) so being able to incorporate that into the big day is perfect.

Young’s pubs have some amazing locations to host your wedding receptions and some of their pubs even have a wedding license so everything can happen in one venue.  Whether it’s tying the knot in the city or escaping the capital to the country air Young’s have got the pub for you. I particularly love the classic Lamb Tavern in the heart of London, the historical setting of Leadenhall Market is stunning. If  you prefer a more chic and unusual venue then The Oyster Shed is amazing and on the weekend you can out the whole venue, what a way to make your day extra special! Village wedding brides should definitely check out The Dog & Fox in Wimbledon Village and I can’t wait to check out their new Wimbledon venue The Coach House which can house all your wedding needs under one roof. If riverside rooms and a more casual vibe is what you are looking for on your wedding day then The Bishop in Kingston is perfect, the private balcony overlooking the Thames makes for beautiful wedding photos.

The pub is the heart of the community, it’s where people from all walks of life, co-exist and celebrate the small and the big things with their loved ones, meet new people and catch up with old friends and what better place to celebrate the happiest day of your life.
