Horse Pond Inn
The Triangle, Castle Cary, Somerset. BA7 7BD
T: 02088757000   E: horsepond@aol.com

The Horse Pond Inn, nestles at the foot of Castle Cary, an attractive twelth century country town. The Inn gets its name from the original town pond opposite the pub where for centuries pack horses were watered, and which may have once been part of the castle moat.
The pub is centrally located and with 4 en-suite rooms it makes an ideal base for travelling around the West Country - Somerset, Avon, West Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire, either for business or for pleasure. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities, TV and en-suite bathroom.

All the food is home made, the meat is quality assured by the English Beef & Lamb Commission, and the bread & butter pudding is a must! You can also enjoy live music every fortnight at the Horse Pond Inn, plus karaoke every few weeks, a skittles alley with it's own bar and a lovely garden.

Barry Stevens - Planned visit

On the 1st May 2009, i took my wife and family for a meal, to have one of the chef's fantastic burgers, i use this pub when i work away from home and in the area, they were very happy with the food and service, for me it was so nice to take them somewhare that i use when working away from home, additionally rather oddly having placed our order, the chef came out to see me because he recognised my order, as i am the only person that has an egg with the Chicago burger, please don't tell every one that it's very tasty or the chef will think it's me.
Definately a family friendly pub, where quality of service and food are standard.

David King - Spur of the moment night away

My girlfriend and I decided to visit castle cary one weekend and almost at the last moment elected to staying overnight. An initial internet search for accomodation only revealed The George as an option. However, the reviews were not favourable with many people saying the Horse Pond Inn was much better. How right they were! Genuine friendly staff. An interesting and innovative menu offering very high quality food - in my opion, a much better standard than so called "gastro pub" quality (but served in a realistic and non pretentious style) and cooked by a fantastic chef with a real passion for his trade. More often than not it was the chef who asked diners if "everything was ok" which is a rare thing nowadays but demonstrates his personal interest in the quality of food he delivers. We had dinner saturday night and also stayed for Sunday lunch - both were exceptional. We were also lucky enough to be there when John Ramon was playing - an excellent singer and entertainer. Accomodation is of a good standard and dont be put off by the "motel" tag, this is an Inn! The pub interior been refurbished and the landlord has managed to achieve a good balance between stylish comfort and a natural "country pub" relaxed feel. In summary, a fantastic pub. Food excellent, and bearing in mind the quality, more than good value (also - try the House Shiraz!) Accomodation: good and at £50 a night (April 09) again good value. Staff brilliant. Entertainment (John Ramon) excellent. We will be back. We have told friends.

The outside looked attractive so I called in.
What a wonderful surprise: a genuine warm welcome from the barstaff ,I had a great beer, traditional yet contemporary environment !.... stayed for lunch.A well presented and quickly served meal in a pub that has to me on this visit set a new standard in the area....I will be back and I will tell my friends .Certainly a thriving pub worth a call.
